[Spam for Erik, slightly backdated]
[Charles is sitting in a comfortable chair in his room, flipping through a new biology book he'd recently discovered in the library, and while he should be focused on what he's reading, he's not, and he hasn't been for a long time, which is entirely the fault of the other occupant of the room.
Erik's been quiet, and for a while Charles had been attributing that to the fact that they were both focusing on the books they were flipping through, but there was definitely something... off about him that he can't quite put his finger on. There's almost always at least a slight telepathic connection between the two of them these days, and usually it was handy to point out different things in the texts without having to get up and show the other, but Erik's just. Quiet. And he's been fidgety, like he has a bad headache or didn't get enough sleep the night before, which is sort of strange too, considering the other mutant usually liked to keep a lid on when things like that were bothering him.
Finally, he can't take it anymore and puts the book aside entirely, staring at his friend and just coming out with the question.]
What's wrong?
[Notice that he's not giving you opportunity here to say that you're fine, because something is definitely wrong, and you are going to fess up about it. :|]
[Private to Spock, backdated to after Sulu's announced that he's back]
I hope this isn't a bad time- [Although from his tone, this is serious fucking business and he doesn't really care if he's interrupting anything right now because asldkjsdglj!!!!!] Have you spoken to Erik or Anya since you've arrived back on the Barge?
[Private to Anya]
We need to talk.
[Like. Right this second. Spoilers: you're grounded. :|]

Just a headache.
[spam]
Must be a fairly bad one. Do you want me to-? [The half finished question is accompanied by the familiar finger waggle meaning telepathically smooth the headache away for a while.]

He pulls back from his mind to hover on the edges like usual, but the headache's still there and there's definitely something unsettled in his expression and mental presence.]
Have you had any contact with any other telepaths recently?
[spam]
What other...[But he trails off the sardonic reply, scratching idly at his jaw.]
...During the flood. Anya had telepathy.

You don't think she did something? [Accidentally; he's sure of that. He was in her mind, too.]

He puts his book aside and gets up, carefully walking over to his friend and slowly extended a hand.]
May I?

Alright. What's going on?

Hey, he was in my head first! I only wanted to, like, even the playing field.
I know I was kind of harsh at the beginning but I really didn't expect it to be that intense. And anyway, it all worked out okay.
...didn't it?
[The nervousness returns. She really doesn't know, didn't realize there was anything to worry about. And she really didn't want him hurt.]

Telepathy isn't something you use like a sledgehammer, and him being in your head first doesn't mean pushing back as hard as you can was the right response to have. You could have accidentally lobotomized him, you could have killed him! Didn't Spock tell you the potential consequences of a badly preformed mind meld?

[And it's honestly shock, and then fear.]
What damage, he isn't dead or lobotomized, охуеть -
[The "what damage" is only one part protest to three parts actual question. She curses in Russian, frustrated and suddenly disorganized, spiking into panic as she remembers the worst parts of the reading material he gave her, that seemed so obviously irrelevant to Erik's mild headache at the time.]
I didn't meet Spock until afterward, and I thought he was fine, and I thought he was stronger, with your power versus Spock's, I mean, I didn't imagine - please, just - can you put the lecture about what I might have done on hold for two minutes and tell me what I actually did and if he's going to be okay?
[Her voice cracks.]

According to Spock, initiating a mind meld when you don't know what you're doing can cause a neural disease called Pa'nar Syndrome. The synaptic pathways start to degrade, and the endocrine and immune systems are also compromised. It's a very serious condition if left untreated, but fortunately- [Considering there had been no guarantee they'd ever see Spock again when he vanished, and he didn't want to think about what would have happened if he didn't.] Spock was able to cure him before it progressed too far.

Right. Okay. Carry on.

I thought you of all people would understand how power can be abused, and why something like this isn't an ability to be used lightly. Erik wasn't making contact with you because he was looking for information or trying to harm you, and what you did isn't excusable. You could have killed him, and if the disease had progressed, it could have destroyed him.

[His voice betrays just the hint of tension, even if the rest of him doesn't.]
I have not spoken to Ms. Lensherr, but I am aware of the problem. It has been fixed.
