TWENTY TWO ✖ VIDEO

[Charles is sitting in his office, which looks both neat and a little cluttered, and looks more or less exactly the same as he does on the Barge, although without the wheelchair, since there was no getting shot on a beach in Cuba in this world. He's been grading papers, which are neatly stacked off to the side and a little hidden from the camera, so you can't see how your classmates have been doing.]

I suppose we should count ourselves fortune the earthquake didn't seem to cause any damage. Unfortunately - for some of you, I suppose - I plan on holding classes as usual, which means I hope you've all studied for your quiz this afternoon. [He's teasing a little bit, the quiz won't be that hard and they all know it, but seriously guys you're not getting a free pass out of this. You need to know how things like evolution happened instead of just saying a wizard did it.]

For anyone who missed my last announcement, we'll be doing Mary Zimmerman's adaptation of Ovid's Metamorphoses this fall, and again, auditions are at three o'clock on Friday. and I still haven't made a final decision on the musical, so if anyone has any suggestions - that aren't Oklahoma!, thank you very much, Mr. Lensherr, that joke's gotten a bit tired - feel free to bring them up with me. I've been considering a few adaptations of The Fountain of Fair Fortune or Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific, but nothing's quite jumped out to me just yet.

Set work begins for Metamorphoses in two weeks, but the first meeting for the technical crews is this Saturday in the auditorium at two, if any newcomers are interested in getting involved. Please be reminded that part of the meeting will be a seminar on safely enchanting set pieces and props, and other important details to keep this a fun, safe production for anyone involved.

[ooc: Charles Xavier was a student at Floodholme several years ago, went on to get like three different degrees in things just because he could and decided to come back to teach here with your flying teacher, who's bff since freshman year. He was in Cockrel, was kind of a show offy know it all who nevertheless was suave and popular with the ladies and had his moments of being a douche. He's a talented wizard, but he's here to teach you all biology and run the theater program after school. He's that teacher who seems like a huge softy and does really care about his students - and thus is fairly popular - but also isn't afraid to push them hard academically. He writes killer college recommendations, and you're free to call him Professor X if you so desire. It caught on a while ago and the name seems to have stuck.

Oh, he's also a really talented legilimens, but only a handful of people know about it. With great power comes great responsibility and everything.]

I suppose this means there's going to be a fair chance my ears are going ring with Rodgers and Hammerstein either way. [Sigh.] My vote's on one of the Fair Fortune adaptaitons. Not that my vote counts but I'm casting it anyway.

I wish someone would do 1776 for once. [The golem is going to weigh in on this, janitor or not. Shut up, he likes the songs.]

Hard at work as always, Charles.

Oh, I'm not much for theatre these days - beyond the work of our own talented students. I recall an opera I saw once, The Mikado? But that would have been some time ago now.

Picture it Professor, Purple Rain adapted for the stage.

[ Guess who just watched that recently? And who also wants to be one of those newcomers, if only because she's required to have an extra curricular. ]

And I guess I'll be seeing you at those auditions. [ Insert quiet whistling. ] You wouldn't happen to have a copy of the play to spare?
demigoddess: (that smiling haven't slept for days look)

Don't laugh, I'm serious. And I've got it on Blu-ray, n case you haven't seen it. [ Feel free to pretend she doesn't exist, Professor. ]

And uh, thanks. I'll be there asap.

[Barbara looks entirely too pleased to learn that they're still having a quiz.]

Oh, good, I was looking forward to it. [She was worried she wouldn't get to keep up with things like biology in a magical school.]

If you're open to opera, I always wanted to see Aniara.

[People like you are why she tolerates likes learning here.]

I suppose Aniara might be too depressing for some people. [If she sounds derisive that's because she is.]

I've...never acted before. [And now she sounds uncertain. Whiplash.] I did enjoy The Metamorphoses of Ovid, though. The play is based on Slavitt's translation, right?
