I'd bet the former before the latter. [Although with the Admiral, you never really know.] How are you doing?

[It's strange, to see her this much older. He wonders if it's just as strange for Pietro and Anya to see Erik that much younger.]

Not bad. Things have calmed down, recently. [Another smile, this one wry.] Well, you know, as calm as they get. And the school's doing well.

That's good to hear. I suppose I should really get to work putting those plans in motion, shouldn't I?

Definitely. [Her smile deepens.] If it's anything like ours, it's going to help a lot of people.

And I'm not just saying that as deputy headmistress.

I've been doing well. I'm optimistic about the way things have been going, but I suppose that shouldn't come as much of a surprise.

You've always been good at seeing the bright side. Well - my you, anyway. [This should probably feel stranger than it does, but really, once you've bonded with a daughter from an alternate future...]

I do my best. I've been told it's one of my better and more annoying traits.

But then when you aren't optimistic, people get worried. [Jean knows, bro.]

It does have its drawbacks.

[Her smile deepens.] Trying to be the light in the dark is hard. You're not allowed to flicker.

And a fair number of people believe you're lying, or completely mental.

[The smile fades, and she nods.] A lot of people - it's hard for them to trust in goodness.

I can't say I necessarily blame them, considering what they've been through.
