[Charles doesn't really know what to say. There's no use apologizing - it wasn't his fault and it wouldn't make it better, and he knew how pointless it was for people to apologize over things they had no control of - and he doesn't really want to talk about it. He hates living with a disability, hasn't been able to accept it as something he's just going to have to live with, and he hasn't even gotten to a point where he can talk about it as frankly as Tony can, and honestly it's taking a moment to keep his composure in check. It wasn't anything personal, it wasn't Charles trying to claim he had it worse off, it was just Tony was in a different place than he was, and he really couldn't talk about it.

So he's quiet for a long moment, to the point of where it almost seems like he won't be replying at all. His voice is a little strained, but honest, focusing on the second part of what he'd said.]
