It's an evolving process. Take the issue of gender equality. Not forty years before my point in the timeline, women weren't allowed to vote in the United States because they were seen as less than their male equals, but enough people banded together to make a point that that shouldn't be the case, and changed the Constitution to allow it. Then they started on equal rights in all forums, and from my understanding, based on my interaction with people here and what I've read, by most people's "modern day" those who view women as less than men are very much in the minority in America. That didn't involve violently overthrowing male dominated society and murdering people to make a point, or giving up what they wanted.

It isn't perfect, I'm not naive enough to suggest that, and it does take time. But it is possible. Your situation's just a bit different. [What with you wanting to wipe out humanity and shit. :|]
